Problem - A day (16/12/2010) - Chemistry

A drop of a Solution (Volume = 0.05 ml) contains 6 x 10^-7 moles of hydrogen ion concentration. If the rate of disappearance of the ion is 6 x 10^5 mol/L s, and if it takes x x 10^-8 seconds for the ion to disappear, Find the value of x.                                                                         (Type: Sitter)

Answer: Vol. = 0.05 ml = 5 x 10^-5 L
                Concentration of Hydrogen ion = (6 x 10^-7)/(5 x 10^-5)
                                                                = (6 x 10^-2)/5 mol / L
                Rate = Conc. / Time
                6 x 10^5  = (6 x 10^-2) / (5 x x x 10^-8)
                On solving this equation we get x = 2

Hence the value of x is 2
